The Wolf of Wall Street: Music from the Motion Picture accompanies the 2013 Martin Scorsese film The Wolf of Wall Street, a biographical black comedy crime story based on Jordan Belfort’s rise and fall on Wall Street. Unlike many films, The Wolf of Wall Street does not focus on an original orchestral score; instead, its soundtrack is a curated collection of licensed songs spanning blues, jazz, rock, and early-era popular music, handpicked to reflect the film’s high-energy decadence and period vibe.
The soundtrack album was released December 17, 2013 via Virgin Records and later issued on CD and digital formats. It contains 16 licensed tracks selected from the wider set of over 60 songs featured in the film, running approximately 56 minutes. The album was also nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
The music on the album blends mid-century blues, jazz, and early rock influences that underscore the film’s frenetic tone and larger-than-life sequences. Notable tracks include Mercy, Mercy, Mercy, Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song), and Never Say Never, helping establish both period texture and emotional contrast throughout key scenes.
In the film itself, more than 60 songs are used in total, including additional period tracks and musical cues not included on the commercial album release. These songs — ranging from classic blues and swing to rock and pop — are woven throughout party sequences, montages, and narrative transitions to amplify the protagonists’ excesses.
Licensed music note: The film features a large number of licensed songs from various artists across genres that play in the background of scenes; only a portion of these appear on the official soundtrack album.
